The Excitement of Entrepreneurship

One day I really want to be an entrepreneur. So this post is brain dump of excitement.

I think we all have dreams and hopes, and as much as we should simply live in the moment, I think we all have an image in our minds of a certain accomplishment that will make us feel content, An “I made it moment”.

For me I think that moment is going to be the day I open up a coffee shop. I can’t put into words how badly I want to one day open up an Indian fusion coffee house, with masala chai and beaten coffee, bold flavours and maybe also some mango lassi. Beautiful and vibrant colours everywhere. Steel cups, plants and spices on the walls, and embroidered fabric drapes hanging from the ceiling. I want to wake up every morning to open up my coffee house, and give my Indian community a little taste of home, or just provide a comfy space for any individual to hangout. I think coffee is a great place to foster connections, whether it’s a friendship or a business network, I want to provide an environment for that to happen in.

I think in big cities with so many cafes and restaurants every unique individual has a special place that they love to go to. A place that makes the city feel small. When I’m in Vancouver for university it is a sushi restaurant called “The Eatery”, I love going there with friends cause the atmosphere is so up lifting. In the town I grew up in Ontario it’s a coffee shop called "Crème", because my best friend and I would always bike there in the summer whenever we were bored. I want to one day be a special place for people, and a place they remember.

I think there are so many business that make me excited to be an entrepreneur one day. But there are 2 recent stories that I wanna share of businesses that make my heart feel extra excited.

Story Number 1:

In May, my family went on a road trip in Spain. We travelled to Costa Brava for a few days where we stayed in a town near Begur, the energy was a lot more local. We arrived at our Air B n B at Cap Sa Sal pretty late, and a sweet lady Mia recommended we grabbed some food from a small pizzeria called "Pati Blau" for a late dinner. My dad waited in the car, and I went inside to grab our food. As soon as I walked in I felt like a celebrity, all eyes were on me, the hostess treated me with crazy respect, the chef came out and gave me a hug, and the the owner brought out different olives, bread and wine for me to try. I couldn’t speak Spanish and the restaurant couldn’t speak English, but they made me feel so special, It might have been the fact that they could clearly tell I was a tourist, but regardless of the fact I felt so welcome.

Story Number 2:

This past week my family went to Chicago for 3 days to explore around the city. I always see tik toks of "Crumble Cookies" on my for you page, but they don’t got a location in Canada yet. But lucky enough there happened to be a location right outside of our hotel in Chicago, so of course I had to go try. First of all the cookies were so yummy!! My favourite was the fried ice cream cookie. But beyond the cookie, the hospitality was a 10/10. As soon as I walked in, the staff was curious to know how my day was going, asked me about my trip and took 30 minutes to talk to me about my summer, and just form a short connection. I wish I could go back just to have another conversation, but another cookie would also be nice!

In both these stories what stood out to me was the way I was treated. It made me feel warm and happy, and I want to treat my coffee visitors the same way. I want my customers to feel welcome, and feel like they could call me a friend. I think behind everyone business what makes it remembered is it’s ability to foster human connection in a positive way.

So I can confidently say I am so excited to one day be a coffee house owner. The business around me make me excited. Innovation makes me excited. Providing comfort makes me excited. Coffee beans make me excited :)
